Fixed Focal Length (Prime) Lenses
Fixed focal length or "prime" lenses typically (but not always!) offer superior optical qualities, lighter weight and smaller size over zoom lenses.
Some photographers also feel prime lenses bring more creativity out of the shooter. Since you cannot just zoom in on your subject, you might find yourself looking "around" the frame and considering more what will be going into the picture including the subject.
