A great compact zoom lens. The APO design minimizes CA. The 100-300mm APO is still a competitive lens today. It comes in a ADI version that is optically similar to the non-D. Distance encoding doesn't add much to this lenses performance and is slightly more expensive. The 100-300mm XI is a very different lens, so don't get confused.
